How to build big muscles is what every aspiring bodybuilder wants to know. As ever, the question is not as easy as it sounds, and the program used needs to be tailored to the individual. There are basic principles common to everyone, however, and in this article we show you how to build big muscles.

Step 1
Very few people nowadays have the kind of profession which will develop muscle bulk naturally. Muscle building is something which you are going to have to make a special effort to achieve. This will involve a consistent weight training program. Resistance is the only method which can build up muscles if applied consistently. Although resistance training sounds like it will be difficult, and take a lot of time out of your busy life, you will soon reach the stage where you are working out without even needing to think about it.

Step 2
Don’t stop challenging yourself. When you start with weight training, you will probably find that you are making quick progress. Muscle fibers which were dormant are now active. There is a tendency to them become complacent, and stay at the level you have reached. The main problem is not increasing the weight being lifted, and not increasing the strain on the body. As the body adjusts to the weight being lifted, you will need to increase the weight to keep enjoying muscle gain.

How To Build Big Muscles 3
The most easy to understand, yet important fundamental of learning to build big muscles is to lift heavy weights with low reps. That is not to say lighter weights and more reps aren’t beneficial, but in this case the benefit is more one of improving muscle tone and definition. Don’t fall into the trap of so many bodybuilders who end up working harder to pull off extra reps, not realising that this will be of no real value to them.

How To Build Big Muscles 4
When you are ready, expand your programme. Once you have reached a certain level of development, you will find that doing the same old routine again will not yield great results. Many people become frustrated with trying to build big muscles. Parts of muscles gain strength, and seem to almost resist further training. Vary your routine, and you will get over this hurdle. Have more than one routine, and rotate them every few weeks.

This guide has shown you the basics of how to build big muscles from a standing start. Although this is aimed at beginners, it can be applied with benefit by people at all levels. Check out the links below to discover more important resources.

You have decided that homeschooling is the way to educate your child and now you have to ready yourself and your kids for all the trials and tribulations that come with it. You know that the road ahead may be a bit bumpy, but the rewards more than make up for it. Homeschooling affords you a chance to produce a well rounded and well adjusted personality in your child that is by no means an easy achievement.

Obviously, the first thing you have to check out are your state laws regarding homeschooling. You must do this to determine if you have to meet any kind of state requirement. Most states need an affidavit filed with the State’s education department that you are choosing to homeschool your
child.

There are basically three categories of homeschooling laws. These are: private school laws, home education laws and equivalency laws. Find out about your state’s laws and know what your obligations are to the state before you start homeschooling. For example, you may need to maintain a portfolio that keeps a record of your child’s educational progress or you may be required to have a minimum educational qualification as a homeschool teacher.

After you have all the state documentation and other matters taken care of you can proceed to the next step. A good next step would be to look for a home school support group. A support group is good because say, if you live in a friendly or curios type of neighborhood, you’re well meaning friends may try to influence your decision to home school. At the very least, they may put a lot of questions in your mind that have you making second thoughts. A support group that consists of like minded people will help support your decisions of your homeschool process and help downplay some of the criticisms, pressures and questions you will get from regular school goers. Many support groups organize fun events like visits to the zoo, museum, tours to the ice cream shop, etc. If your children hit it off with other home schooled kids in your group, they may be able to build lasting relationships with these kids that will not fade when their friends change schools. Home school support groups therefore provide an important avenue for your child’s socialization.

The third item you need to do is to select a homeschool curriculum. Depending on the method of homeschooling, you may choose various tools that aid you in the process. The internet offers a rich resource for homeschooling information. Do some research and look into the many homeschooling materials that are available.

When you homeschool, you should set certain ground rules. Homeschooling requires a lot of self discipline and hard work to make it work effectively. Here is a list of some of the things to keep in perspective:

1. Eagerness to learn
2. Hard work and effort – work ethic
3. Discipline
4. Time and patience
5. Schedule flexibility
6. Enthusiasm

It really boils down to knowing why you opted for homeschooling in the first place. Your motives and your reasons to homeschool are important pillars on which the whole basis of your child’s lessons and personal development plan depends. Consulting with your children to get their thoughts about curriculum choices, etc. is often helpful as well. Once you have every factor considered, select a curriculum or custom make a curriculum that best suits your child’s educational and personal development needs.

Record keeping is an important part of homeschooling as it is your record keeping that will be looked at or scrutinized later when your child transfers into another school or enters college. Look into all the various methods of record keeping and set up a schedule to update your records every so often.

Your homeschool day does not need to be a long drawn out day. Allow your child to have a part in the daily classroom activities and to what extent of time is involved with each subject covered. Flexibility and fun are the cornerstones of homeschooling. Be careful not to overload too many skills into single term or school year as you can experience burnout or end up skipping over details of over skills you really should not.

It is a good idea to prepare a skill list for your home school. Make the child learn the skills he is ready for as your child matures educationally.

Gentle parenting is the secret to successful homeschooling. Often home schooled children make great advances in learning and show more enthusiasm than they would otherwise. Homeschool kids also turn out to be surprisingly well balanced and well informed when they are taught at home.

As we strive to find alternative energy resources, many potential solutions are on the table. Biomass energy is one such solution or is it?

Biomass energy is unique in that it has existed in primitive forms since the early days of mankind. Burning wood in a cave is a form of biomass energy, which is simply the conversion of an organic material in a manner that produces heat. For example, a fire converts the organic wood into heat. Therein, however, lays the problem.

Global warming is a much debated issue with everyone having a strong opinion and no one seemingly willing to listen to the other side. Whatever your view on this subject, what is clear is we are producing an absolute ton of carbon-based gases in our modern civilization. This is a key issue since the amount of carbon in the atmosphere is a key factor in climate regulation on our planet.

To understand the problems of biomass as an energy form, one has to understand the biomass cycle that occurs on the planet. Simplified, the biomass cycle regulates the amount of carbon in our atmosphere. The biomass, primarily in the form of plants, uses carbon to grow and the biosphere effectively acts as a sponge for carbon. This sponge effect, however, has limits. As with a sponge in your kitchen, the biomass can only suck up so much carbon at one time. When there is too much carbon in the atmosphere or we shrink our sponge with deforestation and such, we run the risk of overwhelming the atmosphere with carbon gases. If our atmosphere has excessive carbon, heat is trapped and all hell begins to break loose. From a practical standpoint, this means our relatively mild climate on Earth will start becoming more chaotic. After the most recent hurricane season, that definitely is not a good thing.

Taking the biomass cycle into consideration, the negatives of all biomass energy production are that they create more carbon gases. A caveman sitting next to a fire in a cave is using biomass energy to produce heat, but the black smoke is a very nasty carbon pollutant. In modern terms, biomass energy doesnt really resolve the amount of carbon we are putting into the atmosphere. Yet, there is an argument on the other side of the biomass coin.

Proponents of biomass argue it is a better energy source than fossil fuels. The basis of this argument is that plants [biomass] have taken in much smaller amounts of carbon gases over a shorter period of time than fossil fuels. Thus, burning them is a carbon neutral situation. The problem, of course, is that even if this concept is correct, we are not cutting down our carbon emissions. At this point in time, we need to be reducing carbon gasses, not maintaining our current output.

It is undisputable biomass has its problems. It is a better alternative than fossil fuels, but how much so?

Youre almost done with the whole article. You should feel relieved. Instead you feel like youve written a bunch of junk.

Its funny, though. At other times youve felt that youve written something worthwhile.

Now, however, you feel the urge to read several more articles, add more footnotes, edit it some more, or check your email. Anything but wrap it up and send it in.

It doesnt matter if its a revise and resubmit article for a journal or a draft chapter to show to your dissertation advisor. Theres something anxiety-provoking about letting go of your work and putting it out there for the wider world to see.

One very brilliant client of mine told me how she had a similar feeling when she was 9 months pregnant. The babys room wasnt ready, and she had so much more to do. She tried to will herself not to give birth yet. Luckily, her body didnt cooperate. Now she tries to do the same with journal articles.

This reluctance to release ones work is so common in academia, that it may well be the norm. In some cases, though, it can become crippling.
Reasons for Reluctance to Release Writing
Here are the kinds of statements that I hear from academics in regards to this issue. Each statement is followed by an alternate way to look at the situation. If youve found yourself saying anything like this to yourself, try the alternate way of thinking on for size.

Who am I to make that definitive a statement?
o If not you, then who? What makes someone else an authority and not you? Where and when did the current authorities start having the authority to make their statements?
I have an idea, but I cant find any references to cite that say what Im thinking.
o Maybe thats because its an original idea! Sometimes new ideas really are leaps. Run it by some colleagues and see what they think.
Im intimidated by the fact that others have written about my subject for much longer than I have.
o Sometimes people who are steeped in a subject cant think about that subject in as clear a light as a newcomer.
o A new voice is always welcome (and if it isnt, too bad for them.)
My viewpoint doesnt fit the mental maps of academics in my field, so they will disagree with what I say.
o Try to welcome disagreement! The best scholarly contributions often incite others to argue vociferously against the new ideas. By generating discussion youre advancing the field.
o The critical nature of academia is paralyzing to some. Its important to realize that academics enjoy thinking and puzzling things out. The devils advocate approach that looks for holes in your logic is just part of the process. Try not to take that part personally.
o Remember that some of the most famous theorists, even the ones with scads of data to back them up, invited the most invective. Charles Darwin comes to mind Im sure you can think of others.
What if I just dont know what Im talking about?
o Then finish the piece, have others read it, and find out! Chances are youre not completely out of your mind.
Everything Ive written is junk. It doesnt make any sense to me any more.
o Its time to finish the up the part youre writing, give it a rest, and let someone else look at it. Either fresher eyes or new eyes will help you see it in a new light.
o If youre not totally burned out, push past that feeling. Trust the process. As one client said, dont flip out just when youre at the cusp of turning it from cream into butter. It seems like nothing is happening, but if you perservere, you will see that you have produced something worthwhile.
I can see that its not perfectly written. Im a sham and a charlatan and I dont deserve to be in this field.
o It doesnt have to be perfect; it just has to be good enough.
o You dont have to be perfect. If youve gotten this far, you ARE good enough. Besides, everyone in academia feels that way every once in a while.
o Looking over already published papers will remind you that imperfect writing still gets published. And has some value!
Theres so much more I could say about this subject.
o You can use this excuse never to complete a project about the subject.
o Its OK to keep writing about the subject. In your next paper, chapter, or presentation, that is. Finish this one youve probably said enough for now.

So Give Birth To That Baby!
The world deserves to hear what you have to say. Dont deprive the universe of your ideas! Release them from your brain and get them out there!

Why So Many Families are Making the Homeschool Choice

It is no secret, homeschooling is becoming the more and more popular choice for families seeking the best education for their students. And the advantages of homeschooling are so vast that you could easily encounter ten different homeschooling families and hear ten different advantages of homeschooling.

As a result, it is difficult to define the main advantages of homeschooling without missing key advantages or reasons that people choose to homeschool. In fact, one could easily say that the advantages of homeschooling are only limited by the imagination of each homeschooling parent.

When polled, however, homeschoolers agreed on several major advantages of homeschooling.

At the heart of all of these advantages is Freedom!

The freedom advantage encompasses many of the advantages of homeschooling cited by homeschooling families:

Freedom to instill values and morals that are consistent with the religion of the family
Freedom to define their own schedule
Freedom to spend time as a family
Freedom to pursue other interests
Freedom to focus on necessary academics
Freedom for real world socialization.

These freedoms and much more make homeschooling the choice for families all around the world.

Read on to learn about the four major freedom advantages of homeschooling:

Advantage #1Freedom to Instill Morals and Values
Advantage #2Freedom to Develop Real Life Socialization
Advantage #3Freedom of Flexibility
Advantage #4Freedom as a Family

Advantages of homeschooling #1

Freedom to instill values and morals that are consistent with the religion of the family.
Many homeschooling families cite this as the number one reason they choose to homeschool their children and therefore one of the main advantages of homeschooling. In a world where religious freedom is attacked from all sides, parents are choosing to take back their rights and invest time into the character and beliefs of their children.

These parents are raising their children in an environment where their convictions drive the education. Conviction leads to passion; it leads to direction; it leads to a sense of purpose. As a result, parents who homeschool out of conviction tend to be very successful teachers.

Think back to your favorite teacher. Was he an individual who did not really care about what he was teaching? Was she someone who lacked any kind of drive or purpose? I would venture to say that your best teacher was someone whose passion was evident. And when passion drives you, you can implement that passion into every subject, into every activity, into every aspect of your homeschooling program.

This is a huge advantage for homeschooling families. Not only do they have the opportunity to train their children in the way they should go, but their passion makes the program all the more dynamic. And this is a major advantage in any school setting.

Advantages of homeschooling #2

Socialization

Why list socialization as one of the advantages of homeschooling? Isnt this the topic that causes the most controversy for homeschoolers? Indeed, this is one of the major concerns for new homeschoolers as well as people on the outside.

But the fact is, homeschoolers have an advantage in the area of socialization.

Why? It has long been recognized among college admissions counselors that homeschoolers have the advantage over their peers in the ability to converse and interact with their professors and other personnel without intimidation. They also have the advantage of working with fellow students of all ages because this has been the way their schooling was structured every day for years.

Rather than experiencing the controlled socialization of a classroom, the secret exchanges when the teacher isnt looking, and the limits of socializing only with children their own age, homeschoolers socialize at all kinds of different levels.

Younger students have the advantage of learning from older homeschoolers who they encounter through support groups, field trips, homeschool classes and more. And one of the advantages for older students is that they develop a sense of responsibility and concern as role models for younger students.

Homeschoolers also have the distinct advantage of working with people of all ages, income levels, and professions. Parents need only tap into the endless opportunities to help their child develop their character, their social skills, and their ability to handle life.

I hear comments all the time about how well homeschoolers handle themselves with adults, with other students and in difficult situations. The time spent with their parents has given them the advantage of seeing first hand how to solve real life problems, how to balance their schedule, how to handle tough situations, and how to find the time to get it all done.

Advantages of homeschooling #3

Flexibility

For some, the flexibility advantage means a schedule that meets the demands of their situation; others view the flexibility advantage as the ability to customize curriculum to the needs of their child; and still others view the flexibility advantage as the ability to allow their child to dig deeper into a topic rather than simply move on the next unit.

Many homeschooling families are families on the move. Whether this is because of work demands or kids who are involved in sports, acting, dance, etc., they need a flexible schedule. One of the advantages of homeschooling is that it allows a family to remain a family while also meeting the demands of an active schedule.

Customized curriculum is a huge advantage to homeschooling. Homeschoolers are not limited to curriculum at a set grade level. Instead, they are able to determine the exact level to meet their skills and abilities and begin there. This means that some homeschoolers will be working at a fifth grade level in math, a sixth grade level in English, and still another level for other subjects. This approach gives students the advantage of mastering necessary concepts before moving on and to progressing quickly in those subjects where he or she is most successful.

It also has the advantage of opening the door for further study in a topic of interest. If your student is taking a literature course in school and is fascinated by William Shakespeare, the teacher will not stop and allow extra weeks for further study. Instead, the passion ignited soon takes a back seat to the demands of the class. Homeschooling families can take advantage of those passions and allow students to dig deeper and learn more.

Advantages of homeschooling #4

Family Time

This is one of the biggest advantages to homeschooling! Where better to nurture relationships, build confidence, instill character, and strengthen bonds than the family? Research indicates that students in families who eat at last one meal together per day are more successful and less likely to get into trouble. Imagine the impact that you can have on your childs future by increasing your family time tenfold!

Will your child learn from peers and/or teachers who may or may not share the same values or will he have the advantage of learning from you? What character traits will they model as adults?

One of the advantages of homeschooling is that through you, they will learn to respect elders; they will be spared the down beating so prominent in schools today; they will develop confidence in who they are; and they will become adults.

Time with the family is so shorthomeschooling allows you to maximize that time and enjoy your children.

The advantages of homeschooling are limitless! In fact, the advantages you experience may be completely different from the advantages listed here. However, the advantage of instilling your own morals and values, the advantage of socialization, the advantage of flexibility, and the advantage of family time are all advantages of homeschooling that center around freedom! And that is one advantage that applies to everyone!

Hurricanes cause billions of dollars in damage each year, including damage to computers. Unfortunately, computers can be much harder to replace if lost than other electronics because of the data contained on their hard drives and time spent tweaking and overclocking them. Being a Katrina evacuee and survivor myself, I know how important a computer can be after a natural disaster. With hurricane season looming in the days ahead, I decided to write a guide to help people protect their computers and data during a natural disaster.

Part I: Backing Up Data And Things to Have

Hurricane season or not, you should always be backing up your data. Whether you plan on riding out the storm (a bad idea) or evacuating to another location, you should have a backup of your computer data either on an external hard drive or optical media such as CD-Rs or a DVD. Be sure to keep your data in a very safe place, such as a water proof safe. Never leave your backup by your computer.

Next, you should have the following things to make life after the storm easier:

1. Phone numbers for insurance, computer or computer parts companies, and phone numbers for all local ISPs (including dial-up and satellite). Having your insurance phone number and phone numbers for your computer company will help get your computer replaced faster if it is damaged. I can’t stress enough how important it is for you to have phone numbers and even access disks for all of your local ISPs! After Katrina, the Internet was the only way many people could contact the outside world. As fate would have it, my broadband was down for 3 weeks and none of the other broadband ISPs would except new orders due to the storm, leaving me with my old friend Dial Up, whom I thought I had buried 8 years ago. Your best bet is to use a satellite ISP as they have no equipment that can be destroyed by a hurricane and cause an outage.

2. Back ups of all your file, have all application and game discs, CD keys, drivers, and operating system discs on hand.

3. Photos of your computer as well as proof of what parts are inside.

In the event your quad SLI rig is destroyed, you don’t want your insurance company to replace it with something of a significantly lesser value, do you? It’s very easy for people to claim “I had this, this, and this and it all cost me $3000 last month.” after their 3 year old Athlon XP rig is destroyed. As a result, your insurance company may be hesitant to replace your expensive computer parts unless you can prove you own them. Also know to what extent your insurance (including flood insurance) will replace damaged property. While some policies will cover the replacement cost of damaged property, some may only cover part of the damage cost. Also know what your deductible is.

4. Blog or Social Networking Profile

Social networking sites such as myspace were great after Katrina. Friends could find out where other friends had evacuated to simply by reading each others’ myspaces.

5. Generator and Gas

A generator can power many things, including home computers! Check with your local generator supplier about any local laws about generators, how to safely and properly set one up, and how well they will work with computers. Because generators provide unstable power, a battery backup UPS and a surge protector are a must. Do not count on gas to power your generator being available in the aftermath of the storm. It’s best to have a good supply of gas as well as a few empty gas containers on hand.

Part II: Evacuating with Your PC

Like any family members or pets you may have, your PC isn’t something to leave behind if you can avoid it. While your first priority should be getting out alive, you should consider bringing your PC with you if you can room in your car. You can’t count on your destination to have good computers, high speed Internet, or any entertaining activities for that matter. Being in another place during a hurricane is stressful. Between watching your home town being walloped on CNN and The Weather Channel, the people around you as well as yourself will be tense and worried. Having a nice computer to browse the web with and play Battlefield 2 is a sure entertainer. In fact, the Internet was the only place where I could get information about my very neighborhood after the storm! Local newspaper message boards were packed with evacuees from all over my area and had plenty of information about damage to share.

Even if you can’t bring your PC, at the very least bring your hard drive with you! If your home is looted in the aftermath of the storm, the last thing you want is your personal data in someone else’s hands. Be sure your hard drive is in an anti-static bag to avoid needless damage to it.

If taking a long road trip, you should probably place some sort of padding or foaming (even a blanket will work) around your computer or hard drive to protect it from the vibrations of the car. Don’t bring your monitor unless you have an LCD and there’s room for it.

Part III: Leaving Your PC at Home

If you don’t have room for your PC in your car, don’t plan on staying with it during the storm. There are several safeguards you can take to prevent unnecessary damage to your computer:

1. Cover any open parts of your computer case (such as fans and vents) with tape. Don’t use duct tape unless you want to risk taking paint off your case or a sticky mess.

2. Cover your computer with as many trash bags as you need. At least 2 trash bags per computer are recommended.

3. Consider how high your home is above sea level, the risk of flooding, and other factors. If you know your home could flood, you should put your computer on the second floor. But if you know your roof is weak and could easily blow off, don’t put it on the second floor! Find an enclosed space with no windows (such as a closet) as close to the center of your home as possible. If your computer case has a side window, make sure it’s facing towards the ground or against a wall. If you can, place other objects around your computer to offer it additonal protection from blowing rain and flying debris.

Part IV: When the Worst Happens

In the event your PC becomes damaged during the storm, don’t fret. If the damage is from a fallen tree or a piece of flying debri, there is nothing you can do. If your computer becomes flooded, however, there are steps you can take to recover it. Below is a basic guide on how to recover a flooded computer.

1. Do not turn on the computer! Make sure it is unplugged! While you may be anxious to see if your computer can run, don’t do it if you know it’s been exposed to water. You’ll just end up causing more damage if you do. Remember to keep your computer unplugged.

2. Remove components that work. If you can see a water line in your computer, take out all the components above it and put them in a safe place.

3. Let your computer dry. Let your computer dry for a week or so. One drop of water in a running computer could mean disaster.

4. Remove the CMOS battery and other parts.

5. Use a solution of 90% alcohol or more to wash the various components of your computer, including connectors. If necessary, use a paint brush to remove stubbon crud.

6. Let your computer dry completely.

If the above doesn’t work or you have data you can’t risk losing on your hard drive, consider professional computer recovery. Do not plan on salvaging the power supply, CMOS battery, the hard drive, optical drives, or any fans if they have been flooded. Also remember to take pictures of any damage to your computer before you attempt to fix it for insurance purposes.

Hopefully this guide will help people save their computers from hurricane related damage. A computer is a very useful tool that should be part of any good disaster supply kit. Trust me when I say it’s an important thing to have around. However, remember a computer is only a material possession. Like all material objects, they can be replaced. Human and animal life, however, cannot. Use good judgement when deciding whether or not to take your computer with you and while repairing it if it damaged.

Disclaimer: In no way is the author responsible for any actions you may take to save your computer from a hurricane or fix it after flooding. Any actions you choose regarding hurricanes and computers are taken at your own risk. For the sake of all, please use common sense during any natural disaster.

Hospice patients come to our care after being cut, burned, and poisoned. Surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation treatment are the normative methods of care for most of the patients who enter a life-threatening disease. Hospital staff members are trained to be aggressive about curative care.

Hospice care is a phase of care whereby aggressive treatment is no longer appropriate. Palliative care becomes the norm. Patients have been probed physically, mentally, and emotionally. In many ways, patients may be reluctant to any type of care beyond the experiences that led to his/her doctor sharing that no more can be done.

The purpose of this article is to claim that much more can be done. Our Doctors and Nurses are trained to help patients receive medication that stabilizes and even diminishes pain and suffering physically. Social Workers are trained to help patients and families deal with emotional, practical, and legal issues surrounding loss and grief. Spiritual Counselors help with the integration of emotional well-being and a sense of faith and hope beyond one’s self-awareness.

There are three aspects of the grieving process I wish to mention in this brief article:

The Heart of Care,

The Heart of Compassion, and

An Awakened Heart

Since I am a Spiritual Counselor for Hospice Care, I will take a spiritual approach to grief care.

The Heart of Care

The heart of care centers it’s attention on the needs of the patient who is dying. Any attempt to move a patient away from his/her authentic character becomes a war of wills. As we listen and care for a person just as he/she is, we are allowing a person to die the way he/she lived. Our ability to meet a person in unconditional love will draw out the desire to be fully known by the patient. Here, we are given opportunities to meet him/her in grace and mercy.

Patients are not a disease. Patients are awakening into soul. Mary was a strong-willed person who did not want to die. She had a strong personality. She had many roles she carried out in life, and she wanted to hold on to them all. She was a mother, friend, wife, among many other roles.

About two weeks before Mary died, she shared with me that she became aware of two identities: one was her strong personality and the other was a presence of peace she could not explain. The closer Mary came to her dying, the more she could identify with wanting peace over suffering. This identity with her soul became more appealing to her than living in a body that was failing her. She was awakening into her authentic self.

The Heart of Compassion

A dying patient gives up so much in their dying that he/she is tempted to hold on to what is left in their life. Even if holding on means more pain and suffering, some patients do try to do so. As care givers, we need to be sensitive to this aspect of a patient’s letting go process. A patient needs support and guidance to simply learn to move from letting go (an act of the will) to letting be (getting into harmony with one’s dying). A person offering care will enter into the heart of compassion by giving a patient space to enter into this process of moving from “letting go” to “letting be.”

As a person dies, their personality will give way to their soul. In the process, a heart is broken. This desire to escape a painful body and embrace peace (one’s authentic-self) is complicated by the desire to remain with those he or she has loved. This built up tension creates a path one has to choose inside them that transcends individual and collective conscious awareness. In essence, this is a matter of survival for the soul. This path moves a person’s soul forward.

Funeral services remind us, it is the soul of a person that draw us to face death and not the deceased body. These services serve as a symbol of transition for the loved one who has died and those reflecting on the life of the deceased. A relationship that once was created outside us and in the body of another person no longer applies. Now, relationships with the deceased are internal and completely within us creating an invisible bond forever linking our awareness to a spacial quality within us drawing those left behind deeper into soul.

An Awakened Heart

An awakened heart knows there is more to life than what appears on the surface.

Dying people lead us to this place where eternal relationships are forged into the deepest aspects of our nature. It is our nature to love and feel love. Even grief has the capacity to deepen our sense of sacredness toward those we love.

A year ago, I gave a talk for the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in Los Angeles, CA. I was gone about a week. When I returned, my youngest son gave me a big hug. I missed him and he missed me. I could feel him literally fill my heart with love. In a real way, my soul was touched by my son’s soul. An awakened heart knows that this is the heart of relationships.

In the landscape of the soul, what matters in life IS NOT matter. When we begin to look through our eyes and not with them, we enter into a view of life from the perspective of soul. Insight, to see from within, enables us to encounter death with hope, with faith, and with love.

As we grow in our capacity to see from within, we enter into the heart of grief. This emergence into the nature of soul will sustain us through death and into life – eternal. May the Creator of us all give us strength for the journey.

Samuel Oliver, author of, “What the Dying Teach Us: Lessons on Living”

As your Internet business grows, the value of your domain name increases. The issue of a domain name trademark should move to the top of your list. You need to guard against unscrupulous competitors that may try to incorporate your domain name in their meta tags to obtain search engine rankings under your name. If you have a domain name trademark, you can go after these individuals and compel the search engines to remove their listings.

What Is A Trademark?

A trademark is a distinctive item that is used to identify a logo, product, device, package or service. The trademark identifies the item as being provided by a particular firm. To protect these items you can obtain a mark from the patent and trademark office that prohibits others from trying to gain economic advantage from your mark.

Domain Name

The patent and trademark office views domain names in a unique way. The office views the http://www element as a part of the file transfer process, not your domain name. The .com, .net, etc., designations are considered top-level domain identifiers and are also disregarded for the purpose of a domain name trademark. For example, our domain name is http://www.sandiegobusinesslawfirm.com. If we submitted the domain name for registration, only the sandiegobusinesslawfirm portion would be considered for a mark.

Locators Cannot Be Registered

A domain name is a locator for file pages. When you type in your domain name, a server locates and displays files. If a domain is used solely for this purpose, it will not be granted a mark. Instead, the domain name must be incorporated into the site. For instance, Amazon is recognized as an online bookstore and the site actually has the word Amazon on every page. Since “Amazon.com” is more than a locator, Amazon can apply for and receive a trademark. If Amazon used the domain name, bookstore.com, the company would be able to register Amazon, but not bookstore.

Generic and Descriptive Terms

Domain names that are generic or descriptive in nature cannot be registered because they fail to designate a distinctive product or service. For example, sandiegobusinesslawfirm is comprised of generic terms and describes who and where we are, to wit, a San Diego business law firm. This domain name cannot be trademarked. The same result would occur with bank.com, book.com, advice.com, etc.

You may be thinking, What about Coke? “Coke” is a trademarked term because it is a distinctive term for a soft drink product. It just so happens that a brilliant marketing plan has convinced most people to refer to soft drinks as cokes, even if they actually prefer another brand!

Trademarks are an important factor in protecting your Internet business. Armed with a trademark, you can keep competitors from pulling traffic off the search engines when people search for your site.

There is no reason why anybody shouldnt be able to learn Spanish by themselves without having to attend language classes or take private lessons. There are certainly ample learning resources in the form of textbooks or online material that can guide you through the entire learning experience. The question is which method of learning works best for you! In this article I explain why I decided to attend classes at a Spanish school in Guatemala even though I had previously studied most of the material they were about to cover via some form of self-study!

After spending about a month or so in Mexico I decided it was time to head further South into Guatemala via Belize. Mexico was my first experience of being in a Spanish speaking country and trying to communicate using the Spanish I had learnt from a text book back in the UK. Not only was the Spanish I learnt in Mexico invaluable but the entire experience taught me a lot about different learning methods and in particular the benefits of learning via cultural immersion.

Although I had done some previous self-study in the UK one of the biggest problems I encountered when trying to communicate in Spanish in Mexico was not knowing enough vocabulary and not being able to structure my sentences properly. I was putting words together but in the wrong order or I was using verbs in the completely wrong tense, or just using a verb in its infinitive form because I didnt know any better!

These are some of the reasons why I decided that I needed to do some repeat studying. I basically felt that I had forgotten a lot of the things I had previously studied! This type of problem is of course a very common one. Nobody can be expected to learn and retain absolutely everything they have studied. To forget things is completely normal!

There are many reasons why we might forget the things we learn. Many of these reasons stem from bad learning techniques. I talked about some of these things in more detail in an earlier article, but generally speaking using a variety of techniques (written, oral and listening), and using different types of quizzes and exercises generally works better than just reading from a textbook.

One of the things I could have done was to spend more time each day by myself with my head in a book going over Spanish grammar and trying to learn and remember more Spanish words. Even though I could have used a number of different techniques to best achieve this, the idea still wasnt very appealing! Something that was much more appealing and logical, especially as I was already immersing myself in Latin American culture was to attend classes at a Spanish school run by local Spanish speaking teachers.

I am not suggesting that attending language classes will work better than self-study. As I said before this really depends on the individual! There are however some real benefits of having someone teach you Spanish face to face rather than trying to learn entirely by yourself.

The obvious advantage of being taught by a real person is that a person can talk back to you and answer your questions if you dont understand something. A real teacher can explain things in more than one way or in a way that makes you understand better. Textbooks cannot change the way they explain things based on who it is that is reading the book!

Another great advantage of being taught by a real person is that you can put what you have learnt, into practice immediately. You can get instant feedback on whether or not you have understood something correctly.

Although it is not essential, being taught by a teacher that is a native speaker of Spanish can also be an advantage! This isnt because they will necessarily know more, or be better teachers. Actually it is often the opposite! Native speakers of Spanish might know less. They can tell you how the language should be spoken without thinking about it but they might not be able to explain to you why it is spoken in the way that it is! This is because they dont need to understand the grammar that underpins the language. They just speak it naturally! Of course any good Spanish teacher whether a native speaker or not should be able to teach you Spanish grammar.

Being taught by a native Spanish speaking teacher means you can practice listening to how the language is actually spoken! Listening is a very important part of the entire study process and the more accustomed you get to hearing real Spanish the better.

The Spanish language school I decided to go to was situated in Antigua, Guatemala. My choice of school was dictated by location more than anything. It was the obvious choice after leaving Mexico! I had read that not only was Antigua a good place to study Spanish but it also offered a rich colonial history and was surrounded by several volcanoes, one of which (Pacaya), was continually active and could be visited via a guided tour.

Antigua is home to a number of different well-established Spanish schools that are geared towards teaching Spanish to foreigners. The specific school that I chose in the end was larger than some of the others and was able to provide accommodation and different guided tours as part of the entire study package.
